Earlier this year, 24 riders – consisting of Metricon employees and suppliers – geared up and set off from Metricon’s Head Office in Glen Waverley to raise funds for Canteen.
Five days and over 500kms later, the riding pack smashed their initial target, more than doubling the efforts of previous charity rides, with a final tally of $240,000; funds that Canteen will use to help young people and their families combat cancer.
Check out highlights from the ride and hear from some of those who took part.
After participating in the epic ride, Metricon Director and Victorian General Manager Peter Langfelder commented “This has been an incredible effort by all involved in raising funds for such a worthy and important cause which we have now been partnered with for the last three years. We are incredibly grateful to all of the sponsors who have contributed so generously to such an important cause. On behalf of the business and riders, we are so proud to be able to undertake activities such as this one to help make a difference to young lives impacted by cancer”.
Metricon’s national partnership with Canteen was forged in January 2019. As part of our strong commitment to community giving, Canteen was selected to receive over one million dollars in financial support over a three-year term and considerable in-kind support through volunteering and skills sharing. The funds raised through initiatives such as the bike ride are in addition to this.
Canteen’s Chief Executive Officer, Peter Orchard said, “Five days of non-stop cycling is an incredible achievement. This ride is a wonderful initiative by the Metricon Victorian team. Thank you to everyone at Metricon and their trusted suppliers for taking on this challenge. Every dollar donated will make a huge difference to the life of young Australians impacted by cancer.”
Canteen Youth Leaders Nathan, Lena and Jupiter were equally as appreciative of the riders’ efforts and the funds their pedal power raised.
