Sometimes life has a way of diverting us from the path we originally envisioned. Dylan Nuske, a yard supervisor at local company Yarrabe and Castlemaine Stone, faced this reality. Initially, he had set out to construct his ideal Metricon home alongside his partner. However, when personal circumstances took an unexpected turn, his plans underwent a significant transformation.
Despite the challenges, Dylan made the resolute choice to move forward. He recognised the importance of entering the property market as soon as possible, aiming to secure his place before he was squeezed out. Undeterred, he remained committed to his original vision of building the four-bedroom Delta on his 900sqm block.
"I initially didn't believe I could enter the market on my own, especially with rising interest rates. But I had a great conversation with a Metricon New Home Advisor and everything changed. They provided me with a fantastic price based on already having titled land. The New Home Advisor was very knowledgeable, and not only helped me with the initial plan but also shared loads of great ideas for the new build, making it feel easy and possible to build a home on my own." Keeping four bedrooms made sense from a resale perspective, but it was also about looking to his future, Dylan says, “I’d love to settle down and have a family one day. And because I’ve got a pretty decent bock, I didn’t want to put a small house on it.”
He had engaged in the Studio M design process the first time around, and ended up carrying many of his initial ideas forward. “The master bedroom is positioned at the front of the home so I can make the most of the great view looking out to rolling hills in the distance. I have great site access too, so we've made sure there is plenty of room to park cars.”
Currently staying with his parents until the build is completed, Dylan is looking forward to moving into the Delta which has all the space he’ll need for the moment, and plenty of room to expand. That includes future proofing the home by running a junction box to the backyard so he can build a big shed at a later date.
There was never any question of him not building around Castlemaine, near his parents. “I’ve travelled all around the world, but I always knew I wanted to live close to my family,” Dylan says. “When you’re a teenager, small country towns can seem boring, but when you get older the peace is perfect.”
A helping hand
Rebecca Cooper, Metricon’s Regional North Sales Manager, says that Dylan’s story of going at it alone is relevant to so many Australians right now. “Affordability is so important in the current climate, and Metricon is determined to help as many people into their dream home as possible, and that includes single income customers,” she says. “Our sales teams across the country work hard to help buyers like Dylan, connecting them to the best promotional offers so that they can get building as soon as possible.”
Metricon’s strength lies in its local focus. “We have a strong relationship with local councils, so we can support customers in getting through the red tape as quickly and smoothly as possible,” Rebecca says. “We can deliver these great offers in areas where we know we have the existing trade connections and have strong relationships with everybody that’s involved in the journey. In every aspect of our business, you’re looking at working with people who are passionate about what they do, which is helping our customers into homes no matter what their situation.”
That’s a key point of difference for Metricon, Rebecca says. “Our regional offices employ local people who have on-the-ground knowledge and have built strong relationship within those communities. It means that we can be a lot more agile in helping people like Dylan. I love the individual journeys that we get to be a part of, and we refer to our customers as family.”
Dylan can’t speak highly enough of Metricon’s approach.
“When you’re making all the important decisions on your own, it can be very stressful. There’s ups and downs along the process, but you’ve just got to do it, and Metricon were there to guide me. They were awesome. They didn’t push me and helped me stick to my budget.” Dylan Nuske
Glad he made the call to press ahead, Dylan can’t wait to move in. And of course, he’ll be handling the finishing touches. “I’ve been putting stone aside at work for a while now and I’ve got visions of how I’m going to landscape the place.”
