Kelly Wilkinson was a young Gold Coast mum of three who thought that being a mother was the best job in the world. But in April last year, her life was tragically cut short by a horrific act of domestic violence.
At Metricon, we’re proud to be supporting Kelly’s family following this devastating incident, giving new life to her dedication to caring for her beloved children, while helping build a brighter future for them.
Kelly’s sister, Danielle Carroll and her husband Rhys have taken in Kelly’s three children, and the family is now housing & caring for eight children under the age of 12.
In partnership with Tamika Smith – founder of My Bella Casa – and a team of valued suppliers and sub-contractors, we’re working to help Kelly’s family rebuild their lives with the construction of a brand-new Metricon home on the Gold Coast.
Celebrating the first milestone with a memorable slab pour
On August 17, we welcomed Danielle and Rhys along with the 8 children on-site to meet some of the dedicated team, including suppliers and partners who’ve pledged their support, to lay the foundations of their new home.
As a group they were able to celebrate the first milestone in the build of their customised Merricks 38 double-storey design – the slab pour. In a touching tribute to Kelly, the kids etched her name into the slab itself.
From accountants to bricklayers and everyone in between, a project of this nature could not happen without the selfless support and generosity of our valued business partners, contractors and suppliers. We’re extremely grateful to everyone doing their bit to build a beautiful new home for a family in need.
Jason Biasin, Metricon Director and General Manager of Northern States, said, “In partnership with Tamika Smith and our valued suppliers and sub-contractors, Metricon is proudly working to assist Kelly's family in rebuilding their lives with the construction of their brand new home.
We have customised the Merricks 38 double-storey design to accommodate Rhys, Danielle and their now eight children comfortably, whilst making the most of the large corner block and allowing for plenty of recreational space and a Plungie Pool.
In the past 12 months, we have been working to obtain all relevant council approvals and finalise the build specifications, as well as guide Danielle and Rhys through the selections process in Studio M. The Metricon team will continue to work to help deliver a home that is both functional and comfortable, as the family embark on their new chapter together.
We are extremely grateful for all of the support to date from our valued business partners and sub-contractors who have pledged to join us on this build journey, however, there is still a need for further support, so please get in touch if you think you can assist.”
We’ll continue to keep you informed as we progress through each stage of construction, so watch this space for future updates. You can also keep abreast of the project at #istandforkelly
