If you ask Metricon design guru Felicity Tragardh why it’s worth splashing out on beautiful upgrades to your dream bathroom, her response bubbles up in a heartbeat.
“I’m about to renovate my ensuite, so I know how overwhelming it can be with all the choices at your fingertips,” Felicity says. “But it’s a great place to show some love. It’s where you start and end your day, so it’s really important to get it right. An inviting, inspirational, and uncluttered space sets you up for the day ahead.”
With that in mind, here are Felicity’s expert insights into the biggest bathroom trends making a splash in 2025.
1. Back to Basics
There’s a growing wave of support for natural, sustainable bathroom materials - and it’s only getting bigger as 2025 approaches.
“There’s a huge appetite for more sustainable options, including natural stone finishes, timber, and recycled materials,” Felicity says. “They look and feel beautiful, and they’re good for the planet too. You get to relax in your happy place with a clean conscience.”
Carbon-neutral surfaces are also on the rise, with ultra-compact porcelain products like Dekton from Cosentino gaining traction. “It’s great for vanities because it’s heatproof, so you don’t have to worry about putting down your hair straightener,” Felicity explains.
2025 Tip: Prioritise materials that are kind to the planet and pleasing to the senses.
2. Going Green
Biophilic design is making waves in 2025 bathroom trends. This nature-inspired approach is all about reconnecting your home to the natural world.
“We’re big on indoor-outdoor living at Metricon, so biophilic design is a natural extension of that,” Felicity says. “When it comes to bathrooms, think greenery galore - terrarium-type plants, ferns, eucalyptus - all of which thrive in the humidity and filtered light.”
Hanging baskets are a clever option here. “They don’t take up any counter space, but they still bring that lush, nature-inspired vibe into the room,” Felicity explains. “Plus, they purify the air and give the bathroom that spa-like feel.”
2025 Tip: Create your very own indoor retreat by adding greenery that thrives in humid conditions.
3. Make Room
Minimalism remains a major influence for 2025, with floating vanities becoming the must-have feature for a clean, uncluttered bathroom.
"Any furniture that sits on the floor leaves a footprint,” Felicity says. “Whereas a floating vanity allows you to see the entire floor area which gives the illusion of space, even in the smallest bathrooms."
This sleek design not only adds space but also allows for smart technology. “Install concealed LED lighting underneath the vanity,” Felicity suggests. “It gives the bathroom a soft, ambient glow and can be linked to motion sensors. Perfect for those late-night trips when you don’t want to be blinded by bright lights.”
Wall-mounted tapware is also a space-saver, freeing up precious benchtop real estate. “We’re loving brushed nickel, gold, and brass tapware, but the timeless matte black isn’t going anywhere,” she adds. A favourite of our design team is the Milli Pure Progressive Wall Basin Mixer Set in Brushed Nickel from Reece.
2025 Tip: Free up floor space with floating vanities and wall-mounted tapware for a sleek, modern look.
4. Space to Pamper
Shower storage is getting an upgrade, with smarter, more spacious shelving options making waves in 2025. Gone are the days of tiny shower niches and wobbly caddies hanging off the showerhead.
“The shower shelf is evolving,” Felicity says. “We’re now seeing broader wall-mounted shelves that span across more of the wall, rather than trying to squish everything into one small nook.”
With more room for pampering products - shampoos, scrubs, and spa treats - you’ll never have to juggle bottles mid-shower again.
2025 Tip: Ditch the cramped shower caddy and opt for wall-spanning storage for a more luxurious experience.
5. Colouring In
Move over, stark white bathrooms - 2025 is bringing warmth, texture, and bold colour to the forefront.
“We’re seeing a shift towards richer hues like rust and olive green,” Felicity says. “These colours add warmth and personality, and they can be introduced through towels, soap dispensers, or even small artworks.”
The statement tile trend is also going strong. Metricon’s design team loves large tiles for a sleek, modern look that reduces grout maintenance. But feature tiles are having a moment too.
“Add a pop of colour to feature areas like the wall above your shower shelf or behind the vanity,” Felicity says. “We’re loving earthy tones and textures like Beaumont Tiles’ Clay Terra range, which offers beautiful variation and a handmade feel.”
2025 Tip: Add colour and texture with rust, olive green, or statement feature tiles for a bathroom that feels warm, modern, and full of personality.
Whether you’re embracing nature-inspired greenery or swapping out a plain white vanity for a floating masterpiece, these trends are designed to bring beauty and calm into your everyday routine.
