Modern country luxury comes to life in Bairnsdale

Metricon

As the largest city in the East Gippsland region of Victoria, Bairnsdale is a thriving provincial hub with a lot going for it. Once the place of steamboats and traders who arrived in the area in the 1850s, Bairnsdale now boasts its own rural suburbs, one of which is Lucknow. Named after a town in India, this growing locality is now home to Metricon’s Denver, a modern country abode that delivers on many fronts.

Combining a modern ranch-style feel with Australian practicality, the Denver’s expansive one-storey design stands out for its street presence and grandeur. Thanks to a wide portico and the use of natural materials, it’s a home that will complement the surrounding environment, all the while still offering proportions that will impress neighbours and provide plenty of room for your family.

We caught up with Metricon’s Senior Interior Designer (Tracey Noonan) to get the lowdown on virtually every nook and cranny in the Denver.

“Given the traditional external Colonial façade of the Denver, a classic Australian homestead theme was well suited to this style of home so that when you enter you feel immediately comfortable, at home and ready to relax.

When it came to deciding on the internal theme, we set out to create a modern, comfortable interior that was not only fashionable but had a traditional and relaxed feeling throughout.

As soon as you enter through the front doors, the view through to the open and airy dining, family and kitchen is enhanced by the raked ceilings that create a spacious and open feeling to the home.

Light timber flooring in Trendtime Oak Nougat with a herringbone pattern is the first thing you notice as you enter the home. Used for the classic pattern but with a warmth and casualness that it creates, it’s the perfect flooring to create a Country Luxe theme.

A traditional themed kitchen with shaker profile cupboard doors in Dulux Blue Velvet combined with Silestone Blanco Orion stone benchtops and marble tiles really add to the homely look and feel of the home. All colours and finishes are reflected throughout the rest of the home for a balanced and warm interior.

One of the striking features of the Denver display home is the use of a modern version of a Tessellated tile from Beaumont Tiles in Chelsea Black Ash on the floors in the ensuite and wet areas. Mixed with marble tiles on the walls and a touch of glamour with brushed gold tapware and cabinetry handles gives these areas a real sense of style and a touch of luxuriousness

The mud room, located just off the laundry, just says perfect country estate home, providing a stylish space to remove gum boots, store school bags and sporting gear, clean up and store what you need. Again, colours are carried through from the rest of the home to continue the homely feeling of warmth even as you step through from the back door.

Classic furniture helps create a relaxed feel, which is further brought to life with antiques, family keepsakes and souvenirs collected from travels around the world.

Feature walls and wallpaper have been carefully considered to reflect the colours and patterns throughout the home as well as creating warm spaces, so that the family can use the sitting room, study and family rooms to their full potential.

Rather than using plasterboard, we went with vertical joint cladding in the master bedroom, family, rumpus room and sitting rooms to add texture and a little bit more interest to these rooms, which we love.

Now that working from home has become the norm, the study in this home is the perfect location, being a large separate light filled space that allows room to have two built in desks along with storage space and enough room for an armchair that creates the perfect quiet reading nook space.

The Master bedroom with combined parent’s retreat offers the ultimate sense of cosiness with the addition of a double-sided fireplace that just say ‘come home and relax in your own tranquil spacious retreat.’

But the Denver is not just at home in Bairnsdale, Victoria; it’s a design that can accommodate a tree change in just about any part of regional Australia. And with many bypassing big city living altogether, opting to continue the pandemic-driven work-from-home trend, it’s not hard to see how the Denver offers the best of both worlds: uncompromising modern living in a tranquil country setting.
