As city life gets busier, traffic congestion builds and suburbs swell in size, it’s no wonder more people are opting for a tree change and all the lifestyle benefits greener pastures and a change in scenery can bring.
From kangaroos in the backyard to watching her children enjoy the wide open spaces, Metricon customer Robyn Eames and her husband Shane didn’t think twice about building their dream home in Axe Creek, a quaint community a stone’s throw from Bendigo.
With the finishing touches on their Davenport 34 now complete, Robyn was only too happy to show a bit of country hospitality and share what she and her family love most about their new home and the surrounding area.
What do you love most about where you live?
So many things! The open spaces, the everchanging landscape, the beautiful little community of neighbours we have dotted along our street and the environment our children get to grow up in. We couldn’t dream of a better place to raise a family. The way the kids play has really changed so much since living here. The reliance on technology just isn’t there now, they love playing out in the dirt and riding their bikes up and down the driveway. They love chasing the flocks of cockies and galahs that come in to pick at the grasses and seeing the kangaroos bounding across the paddock with the most incredible sunsets splashed across the sky behind them.
We truly have the best of both worlds here; we’re only five minutes away from shops, schools, and doctors, but when we’re at home it feels like we could be out in the middle of nowhere. Previously, we were living in a home that we thought would be our forever home when we stumbled across our block of land. We’d bought that house before we had kids and quickly discovered that we just needed more space to live comfortably. We were faced with a ‘now or never’ moment, so we took a leap of faith, sold our house and moved into a small rental in town. While we found the time in the rental a bit of a challenge, it really made us appreciate the incredible home we have now.
What do you love about the Metricon design you went with?
In short, everything. As soon as we saw the Davenport 34 floorplan, we knew we could stop our search. It was almost as though this home had been designed entirely with our family in mind. With two children who have lots of toys and books, the leisure room and its location right down the end of the house couldn’t have been designed more perfectly. My husband often leaves early for work, so the main living space and kitchen being completely separate from the kids’ bedrooms means that he can get ready and make a coffee in the morning without disturbing anyone. The home office caters perfectly to days when I’m working from home, and the stunning entry way still wows me every time I walk through the front door. It’s definitely a floor plan that serves us well now and will continue to do so as the children grow to teenagers and beyond.
Which room do you love spending the most time in and why?
That’s a difficult one! I love spending time in nearly every space in our home, but probably the main living room. It’s the space where our family comes together, where I can be in the kitchen doing dinner and still chatting to people sitting at the dining table. It’s just a really homely space. We have an incredible view from this room too, so the full wall of windows and sliding doors definitely gives some added wow.
What did you love about the process of building your own home with Metricon?
We really thought the last house we bought was going to be our forever home, so when the opportunity to build cropped up, we were so excited. Building with Metricon gave us the opportunity to create a home that was everything we wanted. Seeing our ideas and the plans that had lived in our minds, come to life before our eyes during the construction phase was amazing. We now have storage for days, spaces that work for our family and our lifestyle, and room to move. We were able to customize the floorplan, which was already so close to perfect, to cater to our needs exactly.
Is there anything you’d love to add to your home in the future to make it even better?
Having been in our home for a few months now, we’ve discussed this a couple of times and honestly, the only thing we can think of would be a few extra power points. We had a really clear vision of what we wanted for our home, and that vision has been executed almost perfectly. We honestly love everything and just feel so lucky that we now get to call this house our home.
